FAQ

Not sure what mental performance coaching really is or who it’s for?

What does mental performance coaching look like?
Typical mental performance coaching involves up to 60 minutes of a discussion-based session with a mental performance expert. You will explore different topics related directly or indirectly to what is standing between you and your best performance.
What sort of skills or techniques will I learn?
Most of what you’ll learn will fall into one of 3 categories. Performance: focus, imagery, energy activation, etc.
Resilience: confidence, emotional regulation, recovery, etc.
People skills: leadership, communication, conflict skills, etc.
What sort of results can I expect?
It’s unlikely that mental performance coaching alone will make you the next world-class athlete or performer overnight. However, you can expect to start seeing steady improvements in your specific performances, ability to mentally bounce-back, and general confidence from just a few sessions.
Can I benefit even if I’m not an athlete?
Yes! We experience performances at work, school, and everyday life. Medical procedures, negotiating in a meeting, handling stress, performing on stage, giving a speech, taking a test, having a hard conversation; all examples of performances we could improve with mental performance coaching.
Does it actually work?
Absolutely, mental performance training has been studied in a growing body of research in the field of sport psychology with results showing a significant effect on performance. An effect strong enough to convince the US military and most elite collegiate or Olympic athletes to have this type of coaching.
Is this therapy or life-coaching?
No, there are some major differences. Therapy targets trauma and clinical issues, not helping healthy individuals optimize their performance. Life-coaching helps you set and achieve goals, however it lacks the scientifically-informed techniques and approaches to improve cognitive, emotional, and social abilities.
